In Proto-Indo-European—the ancestor of many European and Asian languages—the words for EIGHT and NIGHT happened to be similar. Thanks to that ancient coincidence, putting an N in front of ‘eight’ in many Indo-European languages today still forms something resembling ‘night’. (via @HaggardHawks)
