On this day in 1975, the beaver became our official national emblem. More than a century earlier in 1851, Sir Sandford Fleming, a renowned railway engineer and inventor, celebrated the beaver’s significance in Canadian culture when he designed Canada’s first postage stamp. (via @artcaninstitute)
